IMPORTANCE OF DIALECTS

The dialects are called the unknown branches of a language that were separated in ancient times. In other words, it is called dialect in a language that has changed in distant regions for various reasons, in terms of sound, syntax and vocabulary. In some dialects the sound and syntax differ so differentiation occurs that sometimes new languages can emerge from dialects. For example, as a result of the formation of different dialects of Latin, French, Italian and Portuguese languages have emerged. There are two criteria to distinguish between languages and dialects. One is the social and political benchmark. According to this view, ’’ languages ‘’ are generally prestigious, formal and written. Dialects are usually spoken, informal and unimportant. The familiar expression of this view is as follows: ’’ Language is a dialect with its army and navy”. If it is impossible to understand, they are different languages. Of course, intelligibility must be continuous and asymmetric. For this reason, when talking to a person, the comprehensibility gives us the exact answers about whether the language or dialect is different. The main reason for this is that a Turkish speaking person cannot understand Azerbaijani or Uzbek Turkish.
Another issue is the adoption of basic languages, not dialect. For example, they understand what is spoken when an Italian and a Spanish are together. But these two languages are not accepted in dialect because these languages have their own countries. They also have political forces. For example, there are many different languages and dialects in India. But the government accepts only Hindi and English because the unity and integrity of the country does not accept the recognition of another language.
As a result, after the emergence of nationalism and racism, the language has become a part of political identity, and the language has become a dialect with army and navy. Therefore, the political situation is the main reason why dialects are translated into languages or that languages are accepted as languages.

Have you ever thought what is vernacular?

WHAT IS VERNACULAR?

Vernacular  is, as we all know, the language used in the streets, and it is far from complicated meanings. The vernacular change has existed for many years. Some of the factors caused by this change are: the spread of religion, the spread of education, and the aim of reaching literary texts to more people. The use of vernacular is of great importance because I think people can best understand the new teachings in their own language. Using the vernacular increases people's creativity because they understand the subject better than the different language. I believe that countries with vernacular will develop better. Because it is difficult and laborious for people to understand the source and content of languages other than their mother tongue. In addition to education, films, novels, poems, newspapers and series published in vernacular are more informal and affect local people more. For example, my department is English Language and Teaching and make inferences from my own language while learning the 2nd language or when I'm watching a discussion program on TV, I understand better what is said with words and conjunctions that simplify and vernacular language. Sometimes we ask our teachers to tell us what we do not understand. Sometimes the subject is so deep that we do not understand in Turkish. This time, teachers explain the subject by giving examples from our daily lives. In this case, we use these varieties and understand the issue more easily. Therefore, using vernacular is important for better understanding and it should be used. The aim is to increase the use of vernacular among students who will have a successful future. In fact, it is not easy to observe these variables because following the curriculum that has existed for years makes us feel as if we are connected to this curriculum. In fact, India is a very good example. There are 23 spoken languages in India. Even though the official language is Hindi, they use English in many official cases. But where the remaining 21 languages are used. These languages are used in ethnic groups. for this reason, people may not understand what they read in television, newspapers or magazines in general. This situation is actually very easy to observe nowadays. These linguistic differences brought about social class differences. Old people may not understand the words used by young people. The reason for this is the differentiation of the language and the absence of any standards. When we go to villages, we sometimes can't understand people with accents. The main reason for this is the different uses of language from region to region. Having a standard language could have prevented communication problems, but would have lost its variety and regionality.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Any procedures are necessary for the students in the education process. There are responsibilities for the teacher and the student in the class, but since the teacher is a role model in the classroom, classroom management is successfully achieved within the rules and limits set by the teacher. When it comes to classroom management, the first thing that comes to mind is strict and overly prescriptive teachers, but classroom management may be totally out of this perception. What the teacher expects from his students has a major role in the formation of classroom management. The classroom management of the teacher who assumes that his/her students are individuals and the classroom management of the teacher who determines his/her duties to his/her students as teaching only is very different. For this reason, I would be a teacher in my class who could explain the his or herself easily, had self-esteem and aimed at success and being a good person. in order to achieve these, I must definitely know what kind of educational background students have, how my students ship to personalities, what I expect from them and what they expect from me. When I have this information, it will be much easier to determine the class management that I will implement in the class. First of all, I am responsible for providing a healthy and peaceful educational environment for my students. Secondly, I have to decide the methods of reward and punishment that will help my students distinguish between right and wrong and help them choose the right behaviour.

First of all, I have to decide what to do in the classroom. I have a certain red line, and my students can easily guess how I'm going to react on a topic. Therefore, I have to decide which class management style I should choose before meeting my students. Although I have certain lines as a teacher, my relationship with my students should always be good, and I will be encouraging  to my students in their lessons and life. I would be a good role model for them because teachers are like mirrors for students. Therefore, the style I will use in classroom management is the authoritative teacher style. Some rules in the classroom are also related to this style. For example, the class must have some class rules. Some of them are to come to class on time, to do the tasks and tasks to be done before coming to class, to respect the teacher and friends, not to disturb anyone in the classroom. These are some of the most important rules for not affecting peace and productivity in the classroom. Another important aspect is behavior management. We need to identify some strategies to positively orient students' behavior within the classroom. Some of them may be exemplary to students. We can model the behaviors you want your students to demonstrate. We must be humble enough to make mistakes and accept your mistakes to your students. The other example is that the teacher can put the rules together with all the students instead of setting the rules alone. A wonderful classroom environment is developed when teachers and students collaborate to make rules. Rules can be created to address how students are expected to interact with each other, how students are expected to interact with the teacher, and how students are expected to interact with the physical space. Another important behavior management is to identify the personalities of the students, create the class identity. For example, we can entertain the class name in a fun way such as, superheroes, avengers, ninjas..
Another issue is to reward our students. Rewarding students is a very good case to increase their motivation. If the students finish their homework within the time determined by their teacher, they can play games or watch cartoons in the remaining time. All of these are of great importance to increase students' success and motivation. Some non-verbal signs may be used to avoid distracting other students' attention and motivation. Some of them make shush sign with index finger. Standing in front of the student's desk and waiting until he stops talking, etc. There are also some classroom procedures and students must follow these procedures. The purpose of these procedures is to provide a quiet, peaceful and disciplined classroom environment. Some of these procedures are important; rising fingers and talking, waiting in line at lunch time, giving greetings to friends and teachers when he or she comes to class, waiting calmly not to run in the classroom environment, seeing the teacher as a leader in the class and listening to his or her words. Enabling students to follow these procedures will provide a much better classroom environment.

As a result, teachers and students determine the rules in the classroom and obey these rules increase the peace and productivity in the classroom. Some rules are a must for class management. In a class without classroom management, chaos and confusion prevail. Confusion and chaos can lead to a lack of good education in the classroom, while preventing students from becoming good individuals in the future. For this reason, there are certain effective rules in classroom management such as,  classroom procedures, effective use of body language, rewarding students for the continuation of good behavior and class rules. The teachers who adopt these rules and apply them in their class gain the trust of the students' teachers and obtain a successful class.

What is Virtual Reality(VR) and Augmented Reality(AR)? How Can We Use It as an English Teacher?

What is Virtual Reality(VR) and Augmented Reality(AR)?
How Can We Use It as an English Teacher?

Lately we've heard the words Augmented Reality (AR: Augmented Reality) and Virtual Realty (VR: Virtual Reality). Both are new technologies that are still in their infancy. If you want, let’s start with the definiton of VR and AR.
VR (Virtual Reality) is an artificial, computer-generated simulation or re-creation of an environment or situation in real life. In this technology, a simulated reality is experienced to the user wearing glasses, by stimulating the senses of sight and hearing. Virtual reality creates its own reality, completely produced and directed. You are breaking away from the real world and finding yourself in this fully created world. For example, you can find yourself at some point on Istiklal Street with photographs taken at 360 degrees. Or you can go inside a concert hall with 360-degree cameras. The most interesting thing is that you can find yourself in the games and control the characters you play in the game. Especially with headphones, handheld control devices and even auxiliary equipment such as walking platforms, you can find yourself completely inside the created world.
AR (Augmented Reality) is a technology that incorporates computer-generated optimized images onto the existing reality and is capable of interacting with them.  In this technology, using mobile devices in a sense that displays the real world is blended. Augmented reality reflects the use of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and digital images such as digital photos and graphics. One of the best known examples is Pokemon Go. At your point where you rotate your camera, a Pokemon appears, adding more elements to your world. Likewise, Ikea also allows you to understand how to look at the products in your catalog by placing them on your mobile application thanks to that paint which you have chose is applied on wall by AR application. Thus, you can decide easily which color fix your home better.
So, How does English Teachers can use AR and VR? For example, our topic is English Culture and we need to both attract notice them and help them to meet Virtual Reality so that we can take away them a museum to help of the Virtual Reality glasses. Thanks to that we can introduce our students with metarials which they have been used by English community such as books, wares, paintings, clothes. Thus, both students can understand the topic and they make permanent these informations about English Culture.
So, what about Augmented Reality(AR)? As we know students can be distracted easily so that we can use Augmented Reality for attracting attention. For example, while we are introducing the animals to them, we can make watch them to animals with 3 dimensions, in motion and audible. I believe that this is a very effective way of learning and teaching about persistence.
As a conclusion, we ought to utilize from technology in every environment especially in technology. If we are open to new ideas, our students will be more curious and enthusiastic. Thanks to that we can teach lessons will be more amusing and permanent. Teachers should use VR and AR in their lessons to become more understandable.

Second Life

SECOND LIFE

Second life is a simulation, it is the process of creating a model that can represent the system and this models are called avatars. These avatars can be chosen by users and avatars. The main target of this simulation is create a life which people live and learn. Thus, people can both learn and get fun. Second Life is gather users from the all around the world. It is another benefit for the socialization because this simulation is online. You can login with friends this simulation and you can join a class. It is more important because Second Life provide us e-learning environment. While you are standing at home, you can join your lesson without being at school. It beneficial for saving money, time and comfort. Now, we are creating new methods, techniques and strategies for education. However, technology, computers and tablets are more atractive for students and they live interbedded with them. As a teacher candidate, i believe that teachers should encourage them to what they can do better. They are good at using technology thanks to that we can give the lesson on the technological environment such as Second Life. It can be motivate and encourage them to learn new things. So that in my opinion, Second Life is very useful and promising educational simulation.
