WHAT IS VERNACULAR?
Vernacular is, as we all know, the language used in the
streets, and it is far from complicated meanings. The vernacular change has
existed for many years. Some of the factors caused by this change are: the
spread of religion, the spread of education, and the aim of reaching literary
texts to more people. The use of vernacular is of great importance because I
think people can best understand the new teachings in their own language. Using
the vernacular increases people's creativity because they understand the
subject better than the different language. I believe that countries with vernacular
will develop better. Because it is difficult and laborious for people to
understand the source and content of languages other than their mother tongue.
In addition to education, films, novels, poems, newspapers and series published
in vernacular are more informal and affect local people more. For example, my
department is English Language and Teaching and make inferences from my own
language while learning the 2nd language or when I'm watching a discussion
program on TV, I understand better what is said with words and conjunctions that
simplify and vernacular language. Sometimes we ask our teachers to tell us what
we do not understand. Sometimes the subject is so deep that we do not
understand in Turkish. This time, teachers explain the subject by giving examples
from our daily lives. In this case, we use these varieties and understand the
issue more easily. Therefore,
using vernacular is important for better understanding and it should be used. The
aim is to increase the use of vernacular among students who will have a
successful future. In
fact, it is not easy to observe these variables because following the
curriculum that has existed for years makes us feel as if we are connected to
this curriculum. In fact, India is a very good example. There are 23 spoken
languages in India. Even though the official language is Hindi, they use English
in many official cases. But where the remaining 21 languages are used. These
languages are used in ethnic groups. for this reason, people may not
understand what they read in television, newspapers or magazines in general.
This situation is actually very
easy to observe nowadays. These linguistic differences brought about social
class differences. Old people may not understand the words used by young
people. The reason for this is the differentiation of the language and the
absence of any standards. When we go to villages, we sometimes can't understand
people with accents. The main reason for this is the different uses of language
from region to region. Having
a standard language could have prevented communication problems, but would have
lost its variety and regionality.
